First of all let me say how fine it is to see this board up and running I can already see many familiar faces! My first time at a pandora screening was the most fantastic experience ever of my last uk trip. Grant, my head still aches! That's the last time I let you buy the drinks, friend! Any time any of the boys are in Dallas me and Carol would be thrilled to put you up at the ranch, no questions asked!!
My question is this. Last week I got a hold of a new Doctor Who dvd LOST THROUGH TIME but I swear on all that is holy there is a few scenes from Fury From The Deep that are not in the pandora copy!! And no my eyes are not going! Theres a scene with the german engineer in the elevator shaft that i dont remember seeing and also another one with the fat guy and the tall guy breathing gas. Has anyone else here seen this? I dont think the dvd has been out very long
Dont get me wrong fellas I think the pandora copy is very fine but I thought you ought to know about this!!!

Grant, my head still aches! That's the last time I let you buy the drinks, friend! Lightweight! ;D I believe efforts are being made to obtain proper film copies of the cut sequences, but progress has been hampered by "internal BBC factors", if you know what I mean. There are slight cuts to a number of other Pandora copies due to the censors overseas, but as I recall Fury contains the longest single cut. It makes you wish the BBC had put a "no cutting" clause in their contracts.

Hampered by the fact that the BBC don't have the actual film, surely - unless there's something they're not telling us. I thought the 16mm was still here in the Oz Archives. And you know how bloody difficult it is to get anything out of there on the sly these days - their security is tighter than a nun's nasty. Not like the good old days in the 1970s, mind. If we'd known then that we'd need this stuff, one phone call to Brian Davies would have had it on my Steenbeck the next day.
Actually, I should catch up with Brian for a drink or nine. I might have to see what he's still got knocking around. Knowing my luck, it'll just be that compilation reel of titty shots.

Little bugger! I shall have to have words with my "man on the inside".
He assured me he could get his hands on the originals. I thought he meant the original film, but if it is still "down under" he would be unable to get at it.

Well, it's been a long time since I've heard anyone discuss "Fury". As one of the earliest acquisitions it's probably been snapped up and watched ad infinitum by nearly every society member.
Dane, I am aware of the extra material on the DVD you mention (actually called "Lost In Time"). It originates from the archives of the censor in Australia. Until about ten years ago we were unaware that our copy of "Fury" had been cut; like several other Dr Who stories retrieved from ABC building in Hobart in 1981 it is a duplicate set of prints made internally by the ABC from the cut master prints (apparently sent on to New Zealand)... thus there is no physical indication on the film itself that it had been cut (of course, with hindsight the cuts in the print become apparent due to the slight overlap of audio at the joins... but who was looking?)
The main reason the scenes are not in the available 16mm copies is simply because we do not have physical film copies of the censored segments. We are looking into a way to transfer the DVD segments to film using a flat screen plasma television; they will then be cut into any new prints struck for members.
They are great scenes, certainly!

I think all the film cans were moved to a new archive recently. I'll use my contacts and check into it. Jacob They are now on one reel with a multitude of other cut segments, making it extremely difficult to get access to them (or even locate them for that matter). Originally each segment was in a plastic bag stored in boxes - if only we'd known about them then it would have been comparitively easy to "liberate" them.

I still have the catalogue numbers, and I'm sure a bit of flattery with a few of my Australian friends will get me a long way.... Jacob
